Reiki was re-discovered in the early 20th century in Japan by Mikao Usui.
Mikao Usui was a great Philosopher and Scholar who was also devoted to his religion. He was asked by his students if he believed with absolute faith in the bible that Jesus could heal by laying on his hands. Mikao answered yes, but was unable to do this himself. The students told Dr Usui that his belief in the bible was a blind faith which they themselves did not want to believe. This challenged Mikao to go away and find how this healing could be done.
He set off on a journey of discovery. It led him to many places in search of the truth which took him seven years. It was when he looked into Buddhism that he started to find what he had been looking for. By learning sanskrit he found a healing formula. This formula needed to be interpreted and tested.
Dr Usui went off on his own to the top of Mount Kurayama and settled himself there beneath a tree to meditate. He left word with the Monks of the monastery that if he wasn't back in three weeks they should come to collect his body.
It wasn't until the last day that he gained any knowledge or understanding. During his meditation he became aware of a series of symbols which he recognised from his time in the Zen monastery. He was given knowledge on how he should use the symbols to heal and give the ability to others in ceremonies of 'attunement'.
On his way down the mountain he put his new understanding to use on himself and others. He was amazed by the results. It was from there on that Reiki became known and used.
There have been many accounts of how Reiki has created positive results for a variety of conditions. Reiki is a very powerful form of natural healing.
